Matariki

\Hey bloggers,

For Inquiry this week we've been learning about Matariki and the seven sisters. We got the choice on what we wanted to do to present it. I decided to do an acrostic poem using the word matariki (btw this is not finished)

The stars represent the seven sister
Papatūānuku is earth god

Papatūānuku and Ranginui separated because of Tāne
Papatūānuku went up to her daughters (the seven sisters)
Tāwhirimātea was mad and threw his eyes into the heavens
Ranginui is the sky god

Matariki is the name of one of the seven stars
Aotearoa (new Zealand) is where the seven sisters appear
There are thousands of stars that make up Matariki
At 5:30am to 6:30am is when the seven sister stars are visible
Ranginui is the sky god
I
K
I
The part at the top are my facts I used to create the poem. I haven't done the last 3 letters because I don't know what to put, could you help me?

Name Angles

Hey bloggers,

In maths this week we've been looking at angles and the different types. We got given a blank piece of paper and we had to write our name on it but in angles, after we had done that we had to write the measurements of the angles. This is how mine turned out :)

As you can see I've got mix of right angles, acute angles, reflex angles, obtuse angles and straight angles. Most of them were straight angles but there was a few others, i din't have to measure my straight and right angles because i knew that straight angles are 180 degrees and a right angle is 90 degrees. Have you learned about angles before?

My Koru Art

Kia Ora bloggers,

For the past couple of weeks we've been looking at Koru designs. At first we had to draw a picture of a koru and a few more designs along with it, after that we had to colour it with pastels but in a certain way. At first we had to use the darkest shade and then a lighter shade then the lightest shade and then white, then we dyed all of the white bits we had left I used the black dye so the colours would stand out. Here's my picture :)

We worked on this for about 3 weeks until it was completed.  I learned that a Koru represents the beginning of a new life, growth and strength.

Letter angles

Kia ora bloggers,

For numeracy today, we have started to learn about angles.

We learnt about 3 different angles today - acute (less than 90°), right angle (90°), and obtuse (larger than 90° but smaller than 180°).  We also learnt how to use a protractor to measure angles.  We know that we need to measure an angle from a vertice (a corner where two straight lines meet).

For our create task, we had to measure three different angles on the first letter of our name - can you  figure out if they are acute, right angle or obtuse?
