Movie Review

Hello Readers,

We have had swimming for the past 2 weeks and some people didn't go, so the teachers created a program of tasks we had to complete. We had to complete 2 if we didn't go swimming and 1 if we did, I don't do swimming so I have to do 2 and for one of them I chose a movie review. I chose 2 movies that I liked and put some information about them onto a slide with a star rating out of 5. This is what I have done:

I watched these 2 movies when I was a kid and thought I should do the movie review around them. Have you seen these movies?

2020 what a year

Kia Ora,

We have be writing our poems about 2020 at our school and what we have been doing and whats coming up. We had to have 13 rhyming couplets then put them into book creator, we had the choice whether we wanted to add our own bitmoji's or get a clip-art person off the internet. We then had to post it on our blog so here it is.

Thanks for reading, how has your 2020 been?

Tessellation Art

Kia Ora bloggers,

In maths for the past couple of weeks we have been looking at tessellation, Tessellation is where a shape copy's itself over and over to form more different shapes. Our task was to make ur own tessellation art on google draw using at least 2 different shapes. I used stars and put them together which then created some slanted squares, I then coloured the squares a different colour to the stars so you could actually see where they were. This is mine:

I made my stars a light blue and my background a dark blue, so there for you can see where the squares are instead of it just looking like a bunch of stars. Thanks for reading!

Catch A Lot

Kia Ora,

Welcome back from the holidays, how was your holidays?

In writing we were looking at a video called catch a lot and we had to write descriptive sentences about a certain scene. After we had finished our sentences we were asked to turn it into a descriptive paragraph. We had 2 days to do this but here's what I wrote:

The scene we had to write about was when the the eye was behind the seagull and the man getting tipped out of the dingy/boat. Thanks for reading :)

Hope you enjoy yous time back at school!

Growing Crystal Experiment !

Hi Readers,

In these past couple of weeks we've been making crystals by putting different substances into water, we made one with borax, one with sugar and one with salt. So far we've only looked at the borax crystals because the others need longer. We had to create a slide explaining the procedure the process and stuff like that. I worked with Jhana but she hasn't been here for the past 2 days so we didn't get to finish but here's what we've done so far:

Dissolving Scientific Report

Hey Bloggers,

In writing this week we done another experiment on with substance will dissolve faster in water. We had to write another report and present it in any way we wanted too. This is my report:

Wondering: I think that the sugar will dissolve quicker

Hypothesis: i think that the sugar will dissolve quicker because in warm or hot water it melts because all the sugar grains dissolve into the heat

Materials:

½ a tablespoon of the following substances:

Sand

Corn Flour

Salt

Sugar

Flour

Citric Acid

A tablespoon

Timer

Beakers

Warm Water

Variables:

Independent: powdered substances

Control: amount of water

Dependent: the substances dissolving

Procedure:

 1. Fill 6 beakers with 80ml of warm water

 2. Get ½ a tablespoon and put them into the beakers

 3. Time and stir throughout the procedure

 4. Observe

Results/Observations:

The citric acid dissolved first, then the sugar and last but not least the salt. The sand, flour and cornflour didn’t dissolve at all. The cornflour and flour turned into a gluey kind of substance instead of dissolving.

Conclusion:

In conclusion the hypothesis was wrong because the citric acid was the one that dissolved the quickest. The sugar was second because when you put the sugar in the water you can see the sugar but when you mix the sugar and the water molecule together. When sugar is mixed with a warm or hot substance it dissolves into the solvent, for example when you make a cup of tea and you add sugar it dissolves into the tea. The sand, corn flour and ordinary flour didn’t dissolve, the flours turned into a gluey substance and the sand just stayed there.

Thanks for reading :)

Scientific Report!

Kia Ora,

In writing for the past couple weeks we've been writing a scientific report about our ice experiment. We did an experiment on which powdered substance would melt/eat away at ice quicker then salt because, we know that salt eats away at ice pretty fast. This is my scientific report:

Wondering: I know that salt eats away at ice but is there any other powder substance that will work quicker.

Hypothesis: I think that baking soda will work faster because it bubbles when put onto a wet substance.

Materials:

¼ Salt

¼ Baking Soda

¼ Citric Acid

¼ Sand

¼ Sugar

5 Containers

A Cup

½ cups of frozen Water in each container

Spoons

Timer

Flat surface

Even temperature
Camera

Variables:

Dependant: The reaction of the powdered substances on the ice

Controlled: Amount of water/ice, size of container and amount of powder

Independent: The powdered substances

Procedure:

 1. Put ½ a cup of water into 5 containers.

 2. Put them in the freezer at the same time overnight, then in the morning take them out.

 3. Measure out ¼ a cup of each powdered substance then sprinkle them on top of the ice.

 4. Observe and time

Results/Observations:

The salt started eating away at the ice pretty much straight away and the sand wasn’t really doing anything at the beginning but then the ice started melting and the sand didn't really do anything, the sugar started melting into it straight away but the salt took over.

Conclusion:

The salt ate away at the ice faster than any other substance. The hypothesis was wrong, we thought that the baking soda would work better because when you add it to a wet substance it bubbles and starts to fizz up and dissolves into it, therefore causing it to melt the ice. The baking soda didn’t do anything at the beginning but then the procedure started to speed up but still didn’t beat the salt. As soon as we sprinkled the salt on top it immediately started eating away and when we tried to spread it out we couldn’t because it was already melting into it. The sand didn’t really do anything it just sat on the ice, but when the ice started melting the sand absorbed it and turned into slush. The citric acid did start melting it’s way through the ice and started to speed up but then the salt took over. This experiment is like when you put salt over ice it stops it from freezing so therefore when you go outside you won’t slip on the ice.

Thanks for reading :)

Hope you have a good rest of your day!!

YellowStone National Park

Hello Bloggers,

In literacy this past couple of weeks we've been looking at wolves and about them. We found out that we are local to Yellowstone national park in america, we also found out that they were eradicated out of the park and the elk took over and started eating all of the greenery so the land started dying. Then later on in time the wolves were re introduced into the park and therefore the greenery started coming back and the land was becoming beautiful again, not only did the wolves have an impact on the vegetation but they also had an impact on the rivers and stuff. When the wolves came back more animals started appearing and there was more of them.

In reading our task was to create 2 minecraft worlds using minecraft education edition, one of the worlds was yellowstone without the wolves and the other one was yellowstone with the wolves. I only got to do one of the worlds which was the one with the wolves so here's mine:

As you can see iv'e got a river and some berry's, wolves and some birds. I also added some trees and some gravel I didn't really have enough time to finish it off but I had an idea of what it would look like.

Thanks for reading :)

Samoan Greetings

Kia Ora,

On Wednesday we had Samoan lessons and we learnt Samoan greetings. We had to make an animation or a scratch of people have a conversation in Samoan, here's mine :)

As you can see at the end iv'e got the Samoan and the English version of all the words. Have you learnt Samoan? See you next time :)

Input output maths

Kia Ora,
This week min maths we've been looking at input output maths. We got given a sheet and had to figure out the rule of each one of them. The rule had to work for all of the numbers on the first one and the same with all of the others. Yesterday's task was to create your own robot and make up your own rule that would go for all 3 of them. Here our slide hope you enjoy :)

By looking at the numbesr can you figure out our rule? If you can't look at the last slide.
Thanks for watching :)

Matariki

\Hey bloggers,

For Inquiry this week we've been learning about Matariki and the seven sisters. We got the choice on what we wanted to do to present it. I decided to do an acrostic poem using the word matariki (btw this is not finished)

The stars represent the seven sister
Papatūānuku is earth god

Papatūānuku and Ranginui separated because of Tāne
Papatūānuku went up to her daughters (the seven sisters)
Tāwhirimātea was mad and threw his eyes into the heavens
Ranginui is the sky god

Matariki is the name of one of the seven stars
Aotearoa (new Zealand) is where the seven sisters appear
There are thousands of stars that make up Matariki
At 5:30am to 6:30am is when the seven sister stars are visible
Ranginui is the sky god
I
K
I
The part at the top are my facts I used to create the poem. I haven't done the last 3 letters because I don't know what to put, could you help me?

Name Angles

Hey bloggers,

In maths this week we've been looking at angles and the different types. We got given a blank piece of paper and we had to write our name on it but in angles, after we had done that we had to write the measurements of the angles. This is how mine turned out :)

As you can see I've got mix of right angles, acute angles, reflex angles, obtuse angles and straight angles. Most of them were straight angles but there was a few others, i din't have to measure my straight and right angles because i knew that straight angles are 180 degrees and a right angle is 90 degrees. Have you learned about angles before?

My Koru Art

Kia Ora bloggers,

For the past couple of weeks we've been looking at Koru designs. At first we had to draw a picture of a koru and a few more designs along with it, after that we had to colour it with pastels but in a certain way. At first we had to use the darkest shade and then a lighter shade then the lightest shade and then white, then we dyed all of the white bits we had left I used the black dye so the colours would stand out. Here's my picture :)

We worked on this for about 3 weeks until it was completed. I learned that a Koru represents the beginning of a new life, growth and strength.

Letter angles

Kia ora bloggers,

For numeracy today, we have started to learn about angles.

We learnt about 3 different angles today - acute (less than 90°), right angle (90°), and obtuse (larger than 90° but smaller than 180°). We also learnt how to use a protractor to measure angles. We know that we need to measure an angle from a vertice (a corner where two straight lines meet).

For our create task, we had to measure three different angles on the first letter of our name - can you figure out if they are acute, right angle or obtuse?

Lonely Victor

Kia ora bloggers,
This week for literacy we have been learning about inferencing and show not tell. When we read something, we automatically start making inferences, so it is important when we write that we give clues in our writing that allow people to make inferences. We want to show them - not tell them.
For example: Paul was frustrated when he got to the bus stop and realised he had just missed the bus. But instead I could write “Running as fast as he could, Paul turned the corner only to see the back of the bus as it pulled away. Throwing his bag down on the ground and sighing out loud, Paul realised that he had no choice, but to sit and wait for the next bus to arrive - 20 minutes from now” You can infer from me saying ‘throwing his bag down and sighing out loud’ that he is frustrated.
Our task was to create a video that accompanied a piece of writing about an elderly man. We used Adobe Spark to do this.
Have a look at my video and see if you can you make some inferences about what I have written.
Do you think the elderly man is happy?

My math treasure adventure

Hi Bloggers,

For numeracy this week, we have been learning about grid references and we have been working on 4 and 6 digit grid references.

We learnt that we read across the bottom of the grid first (Eastlings) and then up the side second (Northlings).

Our task today was to look at an aerial map of our school, write down the 6 digit grid references for the letters that our teacher had put on it, and then go in hunt of those points. At each point there was 1 or 2 letters. Once we had them all, we had to come back into the hub and unscramble the letters to figure out what it spelt. The secret sentence was ‘Happy Birthday Zoe’.

I really enjoyed the task. Have you ever had to use grid references before in real life? What was it for?

See you next time

Infrencing

Kia ora Bloggers,

This week we have been looking carefully at making inferences when we read or watch something.

An inference is when we take clues from a text or image, and
What’s going on in this picture? Look closely at the image above or view it in a larger size, then tell us what you see by posting a comment. On Thursday afternoon, we will reveal more about the image and its origins at the bottom of this post.add them to our thoughts or prior knowledge and make an inference.
For example, when I look at this photo, I might make the inference that
this photo was taken in a food factory as everyone is wearing hair
nets and this is required in all food factories.

The text that we read a snippet out of was ‘The Twits’ by Roald Dahl.
Once we had read the first few chapters where they described the main characters, Mr and Mrs Twit, we then had to make some inferences based on the clues that Roald Dahl had given in the text.

I used Google Draw to create a display of my inferences I have made about Mr and Mrs Twit.

Have you read The Twits before? Do you agree with my inferences? What inferences would you make about the characters?

See you next time!

My algorithm

Kia ora Bloggers,

For Numeracy this week we have been looking at compass directions. We have worked on reading maps using the 8 main directions - North, South, East, West, North-East, South-East, North-West and South-West and then we moved onto using Beebots and our knowledge of compass directions to get a Beebot through the grid to various locations.

We had to programme the Beebot with our own algorithm, using forwards, backwards, turn right, turn left and N, S, E, W. It was important that we regularly tested our algorithm to check we didn’t need to de-bug (find a problem and fix it).

Here is an example of my algorithm:

Forward 2 squares, Left 2 squares, Right 2 squares, Left 2 squares.
Backwards 2 squares, Left 3 squares, Right 1 square, Left 1 square.
Backwards 2 squares, Left 2 squares, Left 1 square.

Have you ever written an algorithm for something? Have you ever had to use a compass for something?

My Youthline Poster

Hey readers, last week we looked at helplines and community's we had to choose one of community's and make a poster about it on canva. I made 2 one was on the SPCA and the other was on youthline, I've already posted my SPCA one so go check it out. If your wondering what youthline is it's a helpline that supports children if they need it. Here's my poster.
As you can see, there's the youthline logo with stars just for decoration. I hope that if you know someone or see someone in trouble you call an emergency service just for their care, especially if it's a child you call youthline for the benefit of our kids in need, all the information you need like the number and the site is all at the bottom.

My SPCA Poster

Kia Ora, This week we have been looking at different communities and help lines. We had to choose one and make a poster about it on canva we could do this in buddies or by yourself, me and Matilda chose the SPCA. On our poster we added pictures of dogs and cats and a bit of information about the SPCA, with its number and the website if anyone needs to contact them. Here's our poster.

If an animal is in trouble call the SPCA most of the information about it is on this poster, SAVE OUR ANIMALS!!!

My Family Tree

Hey Bloggers, This is my family Tree.

At the bottom is me and my brother ( Luke). Above from me is my mum and her sister, she does have another sister but it's her half sister so I don't technically count her as a auntie. On top of my brother is my dad and next to him is my uncle and his brother (Greg) he was married to a lady called Samantha and they had 2 children but they got divorced. My grandparents, on my mum's side I kinda have 2 granddad's because my mum's real dad disappeared and left my nan and she got married to another man, which i count as my granddad. On my dad's side my granddad died and my nan got with someone else but they broke up after a while and that's my family.

This is just to say...

This is the bad thing that I done. Have you done anything bad before? You probably have don't lie

Our Samoan Studies

Kia ora, welcome back after that long summer break we just had, i hope everyone had a good holiday and is ready to learn. While the other group was at tech we had two rotations. One was Samoan studies, and the other was coding. Today I'm going to be showing you my Samoan studies.

The first slide is about where in the world Samoa is and towns inside of it, oh and it's flag. Also a couple of facts, you never know it could be something you don't know and would be pretty amazed about. Lets talk about the next slide, as you can see at the top it says '' Samoan Greeting" well that's what it is. There's the English word then the Samoan word, if you practise enough you'd know them of by heart and could speak another language, now that would be call. Last but not least, the Samoan Siapo ( the thing in the top right) this is one of the oldest Samoan cultural art forms.
